Fateh Box Office Collection: Sonu Sood's Film Struggles on First Monday

Jan 14, 2025

Sonu Sood’s much-anticipated film Fateh, which hit theaters on January 10, 2025, has had a disappointing run at the box office. After a modest opening weekend that saw collections of ?6.60 crore, the film's earnings dropped sharply on its first Monday, with just ?85 lakh in revenue. The steep decline has raised concerns about the film’s prospects in the coming days.

Trade analysts have pointed to the so-called "January curse" as a potential reason for Fateh's underperformance. Films released in January often struggle to find a footing, with audiences typically staying away from theaters during the post-holiday lull. While Fateh initially garnered attention thanks to Sonu Sood’s immense popularity, particularly for his philanthropic work during the COVID-19 pandemic, the film's lackluster storyline and execution failed to strike a chord with viewers. Critics noted that despite its action-packed premise and socially relevant themes, the film lacked the emotional depth and engaging narrative necessary to sustain audience interest.

The timing of the release has also been criticized. Competing with other holiday-season leftovers and failing to capitalize on a prime release window, Fateh has struggled to maintain momentum. Promotional efforts, though initially strong, couldn’t generate the necessary buzz to translate into ticket sales.

For Sonu Sood, who has built a reputation as a real-life hero, Fateh was seen as a project that could consolidate his standing as a leading man. However, the film’s disappointing performance serves as a reminder of the unpredictable nature of the box office. Analysts believe that while the theatrical prospects for Fateh appear grim, a digital release could potentially salvage its reputation and reach a wider audience. For now, the film’s journey remains a cautionary tale for January releases.
