Dec 16, 2024

Pakistan set a competitive target of 206 runs in the second T20I against South Africa, powered by an explosive knock from Saim Ayub, who scored a brilliant 98 runs off 57 balls, laced with 11 fours and 5 sixes, demonstrating his exceptional batting prowess. Babar Azam added a quick 31 off 20 balls, but the rest of the lineup struggled to deliver substantial contributions. Despite losing wickets at regular intervals, Pakistan capitalized on a strong middle phase, where they added 50 runs for the fifth wicket in just 22 balls, propelling them to a formidable total. South Africa, however, responded with an authoritative chase, reaching 210 for 3 in 19.3 overs, led by a scintillating century from Reeza Hendricks, who smashed 117 off 63 balls, featuring 7 fours and 10 massive sixes. His commanding innings set the tone for a relentless batting display, supported by Rassie van der Dussen, who contributed a valuable 66 off 38 balls, forming a match-winning partnership that dismantled Pakistan's bowling attack. Despite losing early wickets, South Africa’s batting depth and aggressive approach ensured they chased the target comfortably, finishing with several balls to spare and securing a memorable victory.

In the first T20I of the series, South Africa edged past Pakistan in a thrilling encounter, securing a victory by 11 runs. Batting first, South Africa posted a competitive total of 183 runs for 9 wickets in their 20 overs, thanks to an explosive innings from David Miller, who scored a brilliant 82 runs off 40 balls, and a quick-fire knock of 48 runs off 24 balls by George Linde. Despite a shaky start and the loss of early wickets, Linde’s late blitz helped South Africa recover and set a challenging target for Pakistan. In response, Pakistan fell short, managing 172 runs for 8 wickets, with Mohammad Rizwan top-scoring with a resilient 74 runs off 62 balls. However, the hero of the match was George Linde, whose exceptional bowling figures of 4 wickets for 21 runs played a pivotal role in restricting Pakistan’s chase and earned him the Player of the Match award. The third T20I was a disappointment, as it was washed out due to persistent rain in Johannesburg. The match faced delays due to lightning and was eventually canceled without a single ball being bowled, resulting in South Africa clinching the three-match series 2-0. Both teams and captains, Heinrich Klaasen and Mohammad Rizwan, expressed their disappointment as the weather denied them an opportunity to conclude the series with a competitive game.

The third T20I between South Africa and Pakistan was unfortunately washed out due to rain, preventing any play from taking place. As a result, South Africa secured the series with a 2-0 victory. Reeza Hendricks was named the Player of the Series for his exceptional performance, scoring 117 runs in the second match and leading South Africa to a commanding win.
