Jhansi to Kota travel time will reduce, as railway announces direct connectivity

Feb 23, 2024

Students hailing from Jhansi, who travel to  Kota for their IIT preparation, will no longer require switching between two separate trains. Instead, they'll benefit from direct train service originating from Gwalior. To accommodate this expansion, the Indian Railways has extended its tracks from Gwalior to Shivpuri Kalan all the way to Kota. A sum of INR 500 crore was earmarked within the railroad budget for constructing these additional 284 kilometers of track. According to railway authorities, completion of this project is scheduled before March 2025.

Previously, students embarking on journeys from Jhansi to Kota had to switch trains at either Binna Malakhera or Agra Fort. These transitions added an estimated delay of ten hours via Binna Malakhera and fifteen hours via Agra Fort. Now, with the introduction of direct train service from Gwalior to Kota, the anticipated duration of such trips would decrease to roughly three to four hours. In line with this initiative, the Indian Railways has also extended its existing tracks from Gwalior to Shivpuri Kalan towards Kota. By March 2025, the railway aims to finish the construction of the remaining stretch leading to Kota.
