Feb 16, 2024

The strategy to promote Bundelkhand as a tourist destination seems to be working out well. Bundelkhand, a region that spans across Uttar Pradesh and Madhya Pradesh, has attracted tourism specific MoUs worth ?1,249 crore. These MoUs will be announced at the ground-breaking ceremony on February 19.

The initial success of the efforts can be credited to the cultural and historical significance of Bundelkhand. The famous tourist attractions in Bundelkhand, such as the fort of Rani Laxmi Bai in Jhansi, the holy city of Chitrakoot, and the ancient fort of Kalinjar packs immense tourism potential.

The city of Jhansi, famous for its fort of Rani Laxmi Bai and its role in Bundelkhand’s history, has bagged most of the projects. The city cornered MoUs worth ?837 crore.

Under the project, the tourism department plans to restore and beautify the 34 forts and historical buildings in the region, and operate them on a PPP mode.

The government is organising the Bundelkhand Gaurav fest, a 16-day cultural festival that will showcase the diversity and heritage of Bundelkhand. The festival started from Jhansi fort and will end at Kalinjar fort, with various events to be held in all seven districts of the region. Bundelkhand gaurav fest is expected to infuse enthusiasm and spread awareness about the offerings of this region.
