A significant case of online fraud has come to light in Kannauj, where an engineer named Rishabh Kumar Mishra was tricked into paying ?3.52 lakh under the pretense of a part-time job opportunity. Rishabh, a resident of Subhash Nagar, Chibramau, works in Noida for a private company and was visiting his hometown during the New Year celebrations when the incident occurred.
The scam began with a WhatsApp message offering a seemingly attractive part-time job. The role involved promoting WhatsApp channels and handling prepaid tasks on Telegram. The sender provided a link to a group and asked Rishabh to join after paying a ?5,000 registration fee. Trusting the proposal, Rishabh transferred the amount and began following their instructions.
Shortly after, he was connected with another person who provided additional guidance. Over several interactions, Rishabh was persuaded to make three separate payments, totaling ?3.52 lakh. The fraudsters presented the opportunity as a legitimate way to earn money, but when no results were delivered, Rishabh realized he had been scammed.
Determined to take action, he approached the Cyber Police Station and filed a complaint. The police are using surveillance tools and other advanced methods to uncover the truth and track down those responsible for the scam.
