UP: New Vehicle Buyers Alert... Avoid Paying ?700 for Two-Wheelers and ?2500 for Four-Wheelers. Check Rules First.

Dec 24, 2024

When buying a new vehicle, be cautious of fraudulent charges in the name of RTO. Many vehicle agencies demand ?700 for two-wheelers and ?2500 for four-wheelers, claiming it is for "file preparation." However, all processes related to vehicle registration and documentation are now managed online, and such payments are not required.

Instances of such fraud have been reported across various locations. Bunty Gupta, a resident of Rawatpada, faced this issue when purchasing a two-wheeler for his son from an agency near Bhagwan Talkies. Similarly, Prashant Singh from Kamla Nagar was charged ?2500 for a four-wheeler under the same pretext. In both cases, the agencies refused to provide receipts for the additional charges.

RTO officials have clarified that no charges are applicable for file preparation under the RTO's name. All new vehicle-related tasks are handled online by the transport department. Any agency demanding extra fees is engaging in fraudulent activity, and customers are advised to remain vigilant.

Complaints from affected customers have prompted the RTO to issue warnings to some agencies. Officials emphasize that customers should always ask for a receipt for any amount deposited during vehicle purchases and report suspicious practices to authorities.
