In a significant step against corruption, Dr. Gyanendra Kumar, the principal of Rajarshi Dashrath Medical College in Ayodhya, has been removed from his position. This decision follows a series of allegations, including corruption and harassment, that have raised serious concerns about the functioning of the institution. Dr. Kumar is accused of demanding commissions on pending payments for essential services such as medicine procurement, housekeeping, biomedical waste management, and patient meals, causing delays in these crucial operations.

The situation escalated with allegations connecting Dr. Kumar's harassment to the tragic death of a contractual clerk, Prabhunath Mishra. The victim’s family claimed that the principal subjected him to severe mistreatment, leading to significant distress. This prompted the government to launch an in-depth investigation into the matter, ensuring that all aspects of the case were thoroughly examined.

Deputy Chief Minister Brajesh Pathak took the matter seriously and initiated swift action under the state’s zero-tolerance policy against corruption. As part of the corrective measures, Dr. Kumar has been transferred to the Directorate of Medical Education, distancing him from his administrative role at the college. The Deputy CM has assured that a transparent and comprehensive investigation is ongoing to address all allegations, particularly those surrounding the clerk’s death and financial irregularities.

To address these serious accusations, the government had earlier constituted a three-member committee comprising the Additional Director of Medical Education and Training, the Finance Controller, and the Additional District Magistrate of Ayodhya. This committee meticulously reviewed the complaints and submitted its findings to the Lokayukta on September 23, 2024, for further action.

This case highlights the government’s commitment to ensuring accountability and upholding ethical standards in public institutions.
