On Monday, a team from the health department conducted a raid on an unregistered clinic operating under the name "SN Polyclinic" in Fatehabad and sealed it after finding multiple violations. Surprisingly, the clinic resumed operations within 24 hours, raising questions about the effectiveness of the health department's enforcement actions. The Chief Medical Officer (CMO) has since demanded a detailed report on the incident to determine how the clinic managed to reopen so quickly.
During the raid, led by Dr. Jitendra Lwania, the nodal officer of the Unregistered Hospital Cell, several alarming irregularities were discovered. The clinic’s signboard displayed the names of four doctors, yet none of them were present at the time of the inspection. Instead, two quacks, identified as Aftab and Bunty alias Devi Singh, were found attending to patients without any valid medical qualifications. Inside the clinic, authorities uncovered a large stock of medicines and improperly disposed medical waste. When questioned, the individuals present failed to provide any license for the clinic’s operation, valid medical degrees, or proper documentation regarding the procurement of medicines. These findings confirmed that the clinic was not only operating illegally but also posed a significant threat to public health.
The health department team promptly sealed the clinic and lodged a formal complaint at the local police station. However, by the next day, the clinic was reportedly open again, with the same quacks continuing to treat patients. Local residents expressed their frustration and alleged that the clinic resumed operations shortly after the health team left, undermining the seriousness of the department's action.
Addressing the issue, Dr. Lwania admitted that the seal applied during the raid might not have been secured properly, which allowed the clinic to reopen. This oversight has further intensified the criticism faced by the health department, with questions being raised about the lack of stringent measures and follow-up to ensure compliance.
Chief Medical Officer (CMO) Dr. Arun Srivastava has assured that strict action will be taken to address the situation. He announced that the clinic will be shut down again on Wednesday with police intervention to prevent further unauthorized operations. Additionally, legal proceedings will be initiated against those responsible, and a detailed report on the matter has been requested from the investigating team.
