Heavy rain caused faults in power lines, leaving many areas in darkness and creating a water crisis as pumps stopped working. Over 20,000 residents in Kasganj faced a nine-hour outage, with repair work delayed due to continuous rain, adding to the challenges.

UP Mathura: A power line broke from a pole, leading to the furniture warehouse catching fire and being completely destroyed within moments. The estimated loss amounts to several lakhs.

In Mathura's Bhatha Colony, a fire erupted in a furniture warehouse when a broken power line fell onto a chemical drum. The incident resulted in losses exceeding ₹5 lakh, despite prompt intervention by the electricity department and local authorities.

Severe Cold Wave in UP: Schools Up to Class 8 Closed in Several Districts, Holidays Extended

Due to severe cold and dense fog in Uttar Pradesh, schools up to Class 8 in districts like Bareilly and Badaun have extended holidays. Authorities have issued strict directives to prioritize student safety amidst the harsh weather.

Uttar Pradesh: Suspicious activities in a locked house uncovered, police raided and seized ?30 lakh.

In Firozabad's Ramgarh area, police raided a locked house in Barah Bigha Abbas Nagar, uncovering a large gambling operation. They arrested 35 gamblers, mostly from Agra, and seized ₹29.90 lakh, 34 mobile phones, 8 motorcycles, and a car. The raid, led by senior officials, prevented any escape and ensured legal action against the accused.

UP School Update: In light of severe cold conditions, schools up to Class 12 in a district of Uttar Pradesh have extended holidays as per the latest DM directive.

Due to the severe cold wave, District Magistrate Arvind Mallappa Bangari has extended holidays for all schools up to Class 12. Schools will remain closed until January 15, including the pre-scheduled holiday on January 14 for Makar Sankranti. Online classes may continue at the school's discretion, and strict action will be taken against unauthorized operations.
